Rhoda, Watch Out!!!

Now that season 1 of RHODA has been released on DVD, I really hope we get to see PHYLLIS again too.
After all, Cloris Leachman seems to be experiencing a career renaissance as of late. The series, the second of three MARY TYLER MOORE spinoffs, may not have been all that great, but who can resist this brilliant opening? Complete with a Jerry Herman-inspired theme song...it's one of my all-time faves.

Fabulous theme song! And I actually kind of liked the show.

So brilliant, that opening. In a way, it is kind of the polar opposite of the MTM opening; one asks gently, "Who can turn the world on with her smile", while the other asks, with great bombast "Who lights the lights of China Town just by walking view, WHO?" And then of course we get the answer...

Thanks for dragging this one up again! Loved it.

Phyllis sucked, I'm sorry to say. And that theme song is the worst of all the MTM produced themes. Rhoda is pretty bad, at least compared to Mary Tyler Moore, but Phyllis takes the cake as far as unmemorability is concerned. No wonder it was cancelled.
