DEGRASSI Anonymous, Part 3: Everybody Wants Joey...

From 2009: For Day 3 of my DEGRASSI memories, I'll take a brief look at one of my favorite characters. Pat Mastroianni portrayed Joey Jeremiah on almost every incarnation of DEGRASSI. As a teen, Joey was a member of The Zit Remedy (along with his pals Snake and Wheels). Their one song "Everybody Wants Something" was prominently featured in many episodes of DEGRASSI HIGH.

Joey returned to TV as an adult on DEGRASSI: THE NEXT GENERATION sporting a sexy shaved head and a smattering of facial hair. It war revealed that sometime after SCHOOL'S OUT Joey married a woman named Julia (the mother of bipolar musician Craig Manning), with whom he fathered a girl named Angela. Julia had died suddenly, leaving Joey a single dad (and available to reunite with Caitlin Ryan).After dating Caitlin and a woman named Sidney. Longtime viewers had hoped that Joey and Caitlin would eventually tie the knot, but after Kevin Smith's infamous appearance on the series, Caitlin left Canada to further her career. Joey was eventually written out of the show after his stepson Craig left town to become a cokehead rockstar. For some sexy, dirty, reason Pat is pictured above wearing a tee-shirt proclaiming "Future Mrs. Craig Manning." Hmmm...

After Joey and Caitlin left DEGRASSI and the series focused more and more on the newer, younger cast members I became less interested. Finally ditching the show after the horrific DEGRASSI GOES HOLLYWOOD TV-movie. My memories of the original shows and the first years of the revival will keep this DEGRASSI addict happy for years to come. As Zit Remedy sang, "Everybody wants something, they never give up..."

Naughty & Nice - Holiday Pin-Ups

From 2008 : Since a certain nameless blog listing service turned down Dougsploitation because it considered it "pornography" - I decided to put my money shots where their mouths are and share some slightly sexy photos from Santa's private collection.

First up, we have everybody's favorite Batgirl, Yvonne Craig showing some skin as she poses among some brightly wrapped packages spilling out of Old St. Nick's big sleigh.

Next up we have a classic James Bidgood photo of a hunky young man (circa 1966). Looks like somebody has already started unwrapping their present!

Yvonne's back, this time looking pert and stylish as she poses with a smiling snowman in front of a lovely decorated holiday window.

Meanwhile, a twinky blonde caroler has arrived with quite an assortment of gifts for some lucky recipient. This is another shot from a Bidgood collection called Holiday.

Selections from My Library: BRAWNY and MUSIC CAMP

Reorganizing my book shelf as part of "spring cleaning" brought a few treasures in my gay pulp paperback collection to the forefront. These two just happen to have a decidedly musical bent. First up, Brawny by Chris Milano.Not to be confused with the paper towel of the same name, Brawny is the rare well-designed cover featuring a stunning photo of a young blonde guitarist and great typography. This 1975 page turner begins with this introduction: "A young man sat in the second row of the deserted theater staring up at Story (a character's name!) from the shadows...There was a glow in his lean good looks, tawny as if he had come in from the west. Yet he seemed too lean for the strength of his looks. He had large biceps without the knottiness of a weightlifter, and they filled his red pullover which was frayed around the edges of the short sleeves. A couple of threads hung from the waistband and gave emphasis to the bulge of his tight cords. Every worn furrow of the corduroy seemed to call attetion to the crotch..." Brawny indeed. Readers might want to keep a roll of Brawny handy... just in case. Wonder if Amazon carries it?
Music Camp by Andrew Martin was obviously the inspiration for the recent Disney Channel film, CAMP ROCK. From 1990, this novel features chapters called "Sharing a Meal," "Strategy Conference," "Plucked and Blown" and the obvious "Standing Ovation". I love that the cover features a mortice exclaiming "ALL-NEW!" so readers won't get it mixed up with other novels they may have about music camp. How thoughtful!

Man's Magazine

One has to wonder does this cover illustration goes with "the great search for sexual adjustment" or  perhaps "Poison in Your Pork?".Either way, it's clear what audience this magazine was marketed to–ME.

Cleaning out my files, I came across this groovy vintage ad from the 1970s.

Farrah Fawcett 1947-2009

In February of this year I ran a birthday tribute to California blonde superstar Farrah Fawcett, who turned 62 on February. We now very sadly mourn Ms. Fawcett's passing after a long illness. Farrah appeared in some of my favorite films, including 1970's MYRA BRECKINRIDGE.In 1976, Farrah was seen the sci-fi classic LOGAN'S RUN.
Her fresh breezy style helped her land a lead role on CHARLIE'S ANGELS.
But her bathing suit nipple poster made her into an icon.
Her image could be seen everywhere. From coloring books to Halloween costumes and fashion dolls.
Farrah shocked critics and gained legions of new fans when she scored the lead role in the controversial NBC TV-movie, THE BURNING BED. Suddenly, Farrah was a highly sought after actress!After a few more acclaimed film and TV roles, Farrah pulled a 180 and decided to pose nude for Playboy magazine.
The Playboy spread and accompanying body paint videos erased some of the credibility that she had established over the previous few years.
Sadly personal tragedies and illness have plagued Farrah over the past few years, but our fond memories of her golden years will live on. It is truly an end of an era.

The Sensuous Black Woman

My latest obsession is an album called The Sensuous Black Woman. My generous friends Terrence and Dudley recently gifted me with a cd version of this spoken word classic. I can't begin to describe it. It has got to be heard to be believed. And just look at this groovy cover art!!!

When cruising the internet searching for the above visual, I came across what appears to be a sequel featuring the late Rudy Ray Moore as The Sensuous Man. I've edited the cover art a bit since I don't want an adult advisory slapped upside my blog. I'm sure you can Google it and it will come up.

It's amazing what a different time the 1970s were.

Michael Phelps' Next Product Endorsement?

If Olympic champion and reluctant "role model" for America's youth was photographed drinking a beer, it would  have been a product endorsement. They (the media) say he may lose some of his product sponsorships because of this so-called "scandal". So I wonder what's up next for young Mr. Phelps? Maybe U.S. Bongs is looking for an all-American spokesperson to replace retiring Uncle Sam? I could picture it now...
